Did you know that the origin of white basic t-shirts dates back to 1904. When the Cooper Underwear company thought it was much better and more practical to transform the old one-piece, buttoned underpants into two pieces by converting the top one into an undershirt. It was in the army during World War II when the outer shirt came to be used as an outer garment due to its comfort and because it helped regulate body temperature under uniforms and was perfectly wearable with or without the jacket.<\/p>\n

Until then, no one knew the use of this garment outside the military field. It was not until the 1950s that actors of the stature of Marlon Brando and James Dean popularized it in their films by using the t-shirt as an outer garment under their leather jackets. Thanks to the looks they wore in those films, the white t-shirt became an essential staple in their wardrobes for millions of people and remains to this day.<\/p>\n

These five basic tops that I have made for you can be combined with any of the bottoms patterns that I have on Making Patterns Fly. You see that the variations are endless because also if you like to be comfortable at home you can combine the t-shirt with the basic panties culotte<\/a>.<\/p>\n
