A simple and quick to make sewing project.<\/h2>\n<p>This is the third part of the \"sew with me basic t-shirt patterns\" series. In this part I'm going to teach you how to sew the basic Japanese sleeve t-shirt pattern. This is the easiest of the five basic t-shirt patterns I have on the web because the sleeve is already part of the body of the t-shirt and the seam allowances of the sleeves are sewn like the bottom.<\/p>\n<p>This is a loose-fitting pattern with short sleeves incorporated into the body. It is a very versatile model and from this pattern you will be able to make small modifications and make other garments:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Turn it into a long-sleeved Japanese T-shirt by lengthening the sleeve by a few centimeters (narrow the end of the sleeve mouth so that the cuff is not too open).<\/li>\n<li>Modify the length and make a comfortable summer dress.<\/li>\n<li>You can add a pocket or two.<\/li>\n<li>Use a thicker fabric and make a sweatshirt.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Tips before sewing a basic ribbed T-shirt:<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Wash the fabric or steam iron it<\/strong> before cutting to avoid shrinkage during washing after sewing.<\/li>\n<li>Use a <strong>ball point needle<\/strong> (specifically for stretch fabrics), this way the fabric fibers will move sideways when the needle goes through the fabric and will not break them.<\/li>\n<li>Use the <strong>zig zag stitch<\/strong> if you use a flat (normal) machine.<\/li>\n<li>If you have an <strong>overlocker,<\/strong> use all <strong>four threads<\/strong> to sew and polish the seam allowance. In a <strong>single pass you sew and<\/strong> polish the seam allowance.<\/li>\n<li>For the <strong>double seams of the hem of the sleeves, bottom<\/strong> <strong>and neck,<\/strong> used a<strong> double needle<\/strong> specific for stretch fabrics and <strong>two spools of thread<\/strong>. It can help you to thread yours.<\/li>\n<li>Use the specific presser foot for stretch fabrics.  The <strong>Teflon presser foot<\/strong> or the <strong>double-drag foot.<\/strong>. The Teflon foot is non-stick and moves over the fabric without stretching.
